for Quality Management, EFQM.
As the largest employer in the entire
region, the ironworks in Třinec has played
a vital role in the city‘s history, and their
successful ongoing cooperation continues
through today. The town hall’s support of
this business sphere is made obvious by the
results of the Ekonom weekly research, in
which Třinec received the award “City of
Business” in the Moravian-Silesian Region
multiple times. Last year, the CzechInvest
agency evaluated Třinec as one of the
three most attractive cities in the Czech
Republic for investors, mainly due to
its cooperation with local businesses in
realizing community projects in the fields
of transport, the environment, culture, and
sport. Třinec’s positive rating can also be
attributed to its collaboration of businesses
with local schools, and its investments into
education and the support of technical
education. Toward the end of 2017, the
Třinec city council had the honor of
receiving the prestigious national award
for social responsibility and sustainable
development in the Spanish Hall of the
Prague Castle, as well as an international
RNDr. Věra Palkovská has been in the
position of mayor of Třinec since 2006,
and this year, she was awarded the title
of “Manager of the Quarter Century” in
the field of public administration by the
Czech Management Association. Palkovská
had already earned her spot among the
country’s top managers in 2012, when the
most prestigious manager contest in the CZ
ranked the work of the mayor as the city’s
manager this high for the first time. “The
city’s image is dependant on the people and
businesses that reside in it. Collaboration and
communication amongst local businesses is
something we had already accounted for
when developing the city’s strategic plan.
Třinec is a city that likes people, and we try
to think of every individual that lives here.
We try to focus on creating an environment
that is friendly to all generations by investing
in the city’s appearance, its greenery and
periodically renovating public spaces and
buildings so that our citizens can live in the
highest possible comfort. We use the city
budget to support cultural, sport, and social
activities of non-profit organizations, and
charities,” listed the mayor.
Courage to make bold decisions is
characteristic of Třinec, and in recent
years, multiple daring investments that
exceeded the citiy‘s boundaries have been
made. Třinec became the leading city of
innovative projects, especially in the field
of electric cars.
“The conditions for development are:
stability and continuity in the city,
cooperation and partnership on all
levels, courage, and responsibility. Třinec
has set its eyes on becoming part of the
European concept of smart cities. The
term “smart city” means a call for the
support of alternative means of transport,
infrastructure for transport in the city or
the introduction of an intelligent transport
system. Třinec was able to become the
country’s leading city in electromobility
thanks to the extensive introduction
of electric buses to the city’s public
transport,” states the mayor.
Třinec also boasts the highly prospering
industrial zone of Baliny, which is currently
full, and provides upwards of two thousand
jobs for people all over the region. Over
the years, Třinec, in cooperation with
some of its partners, has been able to
realize a number of significant projects,
for example, a railway station in the center
of the city, a bypass of Třinec, the project
of revitalizating the water in the Olza
river, a modern and integrated emergency
center and the business incubator Steel
IT. The reconstruction of the city library
into an informational and educational
center or the modernization of the sport
and recreation center STaRS are also
note worthy. The multifunctional WERK
ARENA has been open since 2014, is now
the home the HC Oceláři Třinec, and
serves the social and cultural enjoyment
of the wide public.
In recent years, Třinec has not only built
a new image for itself, but also offers its
citizens a more comfortable environment
for everyday life, sport, cultural enjoyment,
and unique experiences. Třinec is a city
that likes people.
