The outlook The importance of infrastructure for the development of the region

SURVEY The outlook... The importance of infrastructure for the development of the region. Ing. Anatol Pšenička Generální ředitel SmVaK Ostrava, a.s. Managing Director, SmVaK Ostrava, a.s. We can be proud of our infrastructure in terms of the production and distribution of drinking water. The central production and distribution system of Ostrava’s water supply is unique, it has a large capacity, is robust, and has sufficient sources in the form of reservoirs in the Beskyd Mountains or the foothills of the Jeseníky Mountains. Thanks to the modernization of the systems and investments made into making them more effective, we do not have to be concerned about the delivery of quality drinking water to the consumers. These investments have also allowed us to link other regions, (Jablunkov, for example) which had previously been dependent on more fragile sources of water, to our central system. Ing. René Janosch Člen představenstva AGEL, a.s. Member of the AGEL, a.s board. Kvalitní infrastruktura je nepochybně významným předpokladem prosperujícího kraje i spokojeného obyvatelstva. Pokud kraj disponuje dobrou infrastrukturou, přirozeně přitahuje produktivní mladé rodiny i podnikatele, kterým umožňuje rozvoj sebe sama. Ruku v ruce s tím jde pak i rozvoj daného regionu. A strong infrastructure is a powerful indicator of a prospering region and satisfied population. When a region has a good infrastructure, it naturally attracts active and young entrepreneurs, and allows them to develop their businesses and the region along with them. Basically, I believe that progress generally depends on the people, no matter if we are speaking of a small business or the whole region. Skilled, apt and productive people definitely move the region forward, as they want to live and work in a well-equipped environment which also offers their children a good education and great quality health care, as well as good entertainment, culture and transport infrastructures. I personally emphasize social infrastructures which involve matters of education, social and health care, and technology. In the long term, I believe that no region can succeed if its infrastructure does not offer good quality solutions and does not follow the current needs of its inhabitants. Many people nowadays do not hesitate in deciding whether to move to another region or even to another country which may offer them a better environment for life and work. POSITIV ǀ 2/2018 5
