INTERVIEW

replaced by support of branches creating

long-term values, the situation will grow

difficult.

I hope that young generations will be

Czechs of the same kind that headed the

top economies before the WWII. In 1924

the young and small Czechoslovakia came

10th among the richest countries of the

world: Germany, Austria, the Netherlands

and Italy followed a few positions behind.

Ten years later, in 1934 Czechoslovakia was

the 10th most advanced industrial country

of the world.

This is the legacy to follow, and the

government should provide conditions for

the skilled Czech nation to prosper again.

Which places of interest are the must-see

in the region of Třinec, and which local

foods do you recommend?

Let me start with food; each visitor to the

region of Třinec and Jablunkov must taste

traditional Silesian pancakes with cracklings

and cream or whatever you please. They are

served in pubs and restaurants all over the

region.

A sports fan must not miss an ice hockey

match in our WERK ARENA. A typical

hiker will enjoy hiking and cycling trails in

our part of the Beskid Mountains from the

peak Javorový, over Ostrý, Kamenitý to

Malý Polom and down to the forest Mionší.

Motor sports fans should visit the Steel Ring,

the most up-to-date karting circuit in Central

Europe.

Mr Czudek, thank you very much for the

interview.

tradition of steel production in the region

of Třinec.

What do you do in Třinecké železárny to

make jobs attractive to young people?

I will not pretend that motivating the young

for factory jobs is easy. We work with

pupils at elementary schools showing them

that the ironworks can be a modern plant

offering numerous opportunities to make

use of their skills and to develop them.

We are living in a totally unique time:

digitization enters all processes including

heavy industrial production, offering huge

opportunities for new jobs development.

Robotization and interconnecting of

systems exceeding the plants saves time and

labour because it can replace activities now

performed by humans. People can prove

their professional worth in new jobs which

are less challenging physically and less tiring

in their monotonousness. Of course, we still

need workmen, however, we are already

searching for new professionals combining

the skill of an IT specialist and a craftsman.

We try to explain our position at schools,

show our modern automated production

lines as well as our cutting edge production

information systems that control all

processes in our plant.

This year marks 100th anniversary of

Czechoslovakia and its industries: how do

you estimate the future of our industry as

a member the Board of Confederation of

Industry of the Czech Republic?

The future of Czech industry unfortunately

considerably depends on the development

in Europe and wisdom of our politicians.

If the trend to support and to invest in

assembly plants continues, and is not soon

Jan Czudek, CEO of Třinecké železárny

responds to the question by Stanislav

Folwarczný, Deputy Governor of MoravianSilesian Region:

What do entrepreneurs expect form Regional Government in spheres of secondary

education?

I believe I can say on behalf of

entrepreneurs that we are hoping for

more intense connection of secondary

school instruction and practice. Quite

often the theory taught at schools has only

a little in common with daily operation

of businesses. The Regional Government

may assist in management of individual

schools searching for ways to modernize

their teaching according to trends

connecting schools and enterprise. And of

course, to make the long story short, the

study programmes should better respond

to what the job market demands.
