has at least part of its center with a dignified public
space character, and I look forward to the next phases
of revitalisation.
Your work often features projects that significantly
impact public spaces, such as the revitalisation
of Kopřivnice's center and the village square in
Heřmanice. In your view, what approach ensures
that urban design harmoniously integrates residents’
needs, aesthetics, and the functionality of the space?
The approach of openness, variability, natural materials,
modern trends in construction, and park landscaping,
always drawing from the history of the location. I am
glad that today, 35 years after the revolution, we are
thinking differently about public spacesnow in terms
of the urbanism of a place and quality of life.
How do you perceive the connection between
politics and architecture, particularly when it
comes to public projects? In your opinion, what are
the key factors for successful cooperation between
architects and municipalities?
This is essential. The relationship between politicians
and architects is very important for creating public
spaces in a community. The famous post-revolution
mayor of Litomyšl, Miroslav Brýdl, had a beautiful
motto: “Architecture is a tool for politicians.”
I recommend that other skilled mayors connect with
architects to create new visions for towns and villages.
What is your perspective on working with large
corporations in the field of architecture? What are
the specific demands of these clients, and how do
they differ from public contracts?
For a major investor-developer, we are currently
working on a residential complex in Ostravice,
including apartment buildings, a hotel with a congress
center, and a wellness facility. It has already been
five years since the initial consultations on the study.
This is a new area that will expand and enhance
the community, eventually accommodating 700 new
residents. We are pleased with the cooperation and
the opportunity to influence a landscape area with
views, for example, of Lysá Hora.
Do you have any defined professional goals,
and what projects are you currently working on?
We don’t have specific professional goals. Our work is
a service. Currently, we are working on approximately
forty projects, some of which have been ongoing for
eight years. This year, we are helping design the Cérka
project in Trojanovice, a site on former mining land,
as well as the reconstruction of the Koksař building
for residential use. In Palkovice, we are addressing
the appearance of the reconstruction and extension
of the elementary school. In Ratiboř, we are designing
a services house, and in Jesenice near Prague, we
are working on an apartment building connected to
the municipal office.
Architect, thank you for the interview.
The openness of the layout and glass
walls allow for easy navigaon within
the building.
Architecture is a tool
