BUSINESS INTERVIEW

would miss us. We had built a strong base of loyal
clients, which made the decision even harder.
While the flower shop was a fantastic project, it
no longer made financial sense; COVID and rising
costs took a toll. I realised I needed to take a step
forward to grow professionally. Closing the shop
marked the beginning of a new chapter, opening up
opportunities like working at Canva and traveling
more. Although it was a difficult decision, I now
know it was the right choice that pushed me forward.
You are a graduate of 1
st
ISO. How does this school
support students in becoming not only successful
academically but also prepared for the dynamic job
market of the future?
Studying at 1
st
ISO provides an excellent foundation,
both academically and practically. It offered
an international environment where we worked
on projects connecting us with real companies
and professionals. We learned not just theoretical
knowledge, but how to apply it effectively. The focus
was on critical thinking and genuine collaboration,
rather than just memorising facts.
1
st
International School of Ostrava offers
an international educational program. How do you
see the benefits of this type of education compared
to the traditional Czech system?
Unlike the traditional Czech system, which tends
to emphasise theory, the international program
at 1
st
ISO provides students with a broader
perspective. It encourages the development of
critical thinking and practical skills. The program
emphasises active collaboration and real-world
connections, allowing students to better understand
global contexts and adapt to the rapidly changing
demands of the modern market. Consequently,
graduates are better prepared for careers in
international environments where flexibility,
creativity, and teamwork are essential.
What values and principles do you strive to bring
into your role as Art Director, and how do you shape
the company culture?
As part of a creative team, it’s essential for everyone
to understand their work’s context within the broader
picture. This fosters an atmosphere of trust, where
individuals feel they belong to something bigger.
We create a friendly and open environment that
encourages idea sharing and inclusivity. Transparency
is crucial to ensuring everyone feels involved, which
not only boosts team morale but also enhances overall
productivity. I believe that when people feel respected
and heard, it fosters new ideas and positively impacts
our work outcomes.
What key skills do you believe are important for
leading a company today?
I greatly admire Canva’s values, which I see
as foundational elements of effective leadership.
These include “empower others”—it’s inspiring to
see how Canva encourages employees to grow
and realise their ideas; “make complex things
simple”—our commitment to simplifying processes
and developing straightforward solutions resonates
with me; and “set crazy big goals and make them
happen”—having ambitious dreams and pursuing
them pushes us out of our comfort zones and drives
us forward, both as individuals and as a company.
These values and their application in the workplace
create an environment conducive to productivity
and creativity. Each day is unique, and that’s what
I love about it.
We know you are also a freelance photographer.
How does this second job intersect with your
role at Canva?
Currently, I mainly photograph for friends, as my full-
time job leaves me with limited time. I enjoy spending
my free time with my husband, family, and traveling.
My passion lies in lifestyle photography—I love
capturing families and weddings, and I always take
my camera along when we travel. Working on smaller
projects allows me to express my creativity and
experiment with new ideas, which often inspire my
work at Canva. Conversely, my role at Canva provides
valuable experiences and inspiration that I can apply to
my photography. Both areas complement each other
and contribute to my growth.
