Ostrava’s HARVARD As an Example of Education in Practice

You refer to the Paneuropean University
as “Ostrava’s Harvard.” What led you to giving
it this title?
The title “Ostrava’s Harvard” refers back to our
origins and strategy. Even though our headquarters
are in Prague, Ostrava is our home. This is where all
of our thoughts, values and long term visions are
created. The title also reflects the universitys focus
on blending education with practice. Preparing
our students for the real world is just as important
as providing them with theoretical knowledge.
“Ostrava’s Harvard” symbolises our devotion to
becoming the epicenter of learning.
What specific qualities do you offer students that
you believe are most valuable?
Our university is focused on professional studies,
which means that we place emphasis on practical
skills and knowledge application. We work with our
proprietors, Prosperita holding, to involve experts
from different companies in the curriculum. These
“practical experts” hold lectures at our university
and guide students in the long term.
We cooperate with various ministries and
technological companies. For example, in
the field of air transport, our cooperation with
the Civil Aviation Authority has given our students
the opportunity to earn credits towards pilot
licenses. Our security studies field allows second
year students to work in state administration and
law enforcement positions providing them with
precious experience and even a full salary.
Private schools are often faced with distrust
and stereotypes in the public eye, however,
the Paneuropean University managed to earn
institutional accreditation. What advantages does
this offer students, teachers and the institution
as a whole?
The private education sphere in Czechia has
been labeled as “an easy path towards a degree”
for a while now. Nonetheless, we were focused
on quality from the very beginning. Earning
the institutional accreditation was a key success for
us as we are currently the only private university
in Czechia with this status. Reaching this milestone
is a testament to the fact that we can match strict
standards and it also allows us to independently
gain accreditation for our study programmes.
We prove the quality of our education through
results. Our graduates are highly sought after in
the job market because companies know that they
gained valuable experience under the guidance
of experts in the field throughout their studies.
