Lenzing Biocel Paskov
a Stable Regional Partner
Lenzing Biocel Paskov a.s., located between Ostrava and Frýdek-Místek, produces dissolving
pulp from spruce wood for further processing in the textile industry and the area of nonwovens
(protective aids in healthcare, feminine hygiene products, cosmetics). Mrs. Kateřina Kupková, General
Manager (CEO), introduced us to the company in an interview and described, among other things,
the importance of pulp production from a regional point of view.
You are the CEO of Lenzing Biocel Paskov
a.s., which has its place in the region, but it
is still unknown to many people. How would
you introduce the company to us?
Our company has its tradition and history
in our region. Pulp production in Paskov
began in 1983 and continued the centennial
history of sulphite pulp production in the
nearby pulp mill in Vratimov. In our company,
we originally produced pulp, which was
further used mainly in European paper mills
to produce various types of paper.
In 2010, Biocel Paskov a.s. became part
of the Austrian multinational Lenzing
Group. After an investment-intensive
change in production technology, the
Paskov plant started producing dissolving
pulp. Our pulp is further processed
in other plants of the Lenzing Group into
viscose fibers. These are used mainly
in the textile industry but are partly also used
for the production of fibers for nonwovens
for use in hygiene and healthcare. These
fibers are part of today’s much-needed
protective medical equipment.
What makes your company unique--in
the Czech Republic and on a global scale?
Our company is unique for several reasons.
I am convinced that we are perceived
as a reliable employer in our region with
a responsible approach to business and the
public. Our company pays great attention
to the working environment and conditions of
our employees. We continuously strive to make
our employees happy to work in the company.
The very low rate of fluctuation evidences the
fact that we are successful in the long run.
Our product is also exceptional. The
Lenzing Group is considered a technology
leader in its field. At Lenzing, we place great
emphasis on the production, research, and
development of high-quality functional
fibers. At the same time, the production
of these fibers meets high environmental and
sustainability. We sell products containing
Lenzing textile fiber mainly under the
TENCEL™ or Lenzing ECOVERO™ brands,
and VEOCEL™ in the aforementioned area
of nonwovens.
What is the basic input needed for
production?
The basic raw material for production is
spruce wood, which we use exclusively
thanks to modern technology: we produce
pulp, by-products, and energy from it. Great
emphasis is placed on the efficient use
of all input raw materials and an ecological
approach is maintained during the entire
production process.
In terms of energy, we can say that our
company is almost independent of fossil
energy sources. 98% of our energy is
produced from renewable sources. We
are self-sufficient in electricity generation.
Most of the electricity is used directly
to supply the area; about 20% is then
supplied to the distribution network.
