When the Hall Breathes with Us
The badminton club B.O. Chance Ostrava has found not only its home court, but also ideal condions
for top-level compeons and tournaments at the Ridera Sport complex in Ostrava. In this interview,
club chairman and head of adult teams, Marek Švábík, explains why this partnership is crucial for
the club and what contributed to the success of the Extraliga nal tournament held in May.
How long have you been using
the Ridera Sport complex for your
badminton club activities?
Our club was founded in 2017, and we‘ve
had a firm base in the hall ever since.
From the very beginning, it has felt like
home and over time we‘ve built a very
comfortable and stable environment here.
Does the venue meet the demands of an
Extraliga team – especially in terms
of sports facilities, technical standards
and match organisation?
Absolutely. The ceiling height meets
international standards, the professional
carpets are certified, the lighting
and facilities are excellent – what more
could you ask for? In addition, the entire
team at the venue is always helpful, which
makes this the perfect place for us and for
Extraliga badminton.
In May 2025, you hosted the Final Four
of the Badminton Extraliga at the Ridera
Sport hall. What led you to choose this
venue for such a major sporting event?
Honestly? It was an obvious choice. Our
cooperation has worked brilliantly for
a long time. The conditions are excellent,
and we know we can rely on both
the place and the people here. So there
really wasn’t much to think about.
The final tournament featured
an exceptionally rich accompanying
programme offering 3D video mapping,
team entrances, VIP facilities and more.
How did Ridera Sport support you
in terms of organisation?
We really have to take our hats off. We had
access to the entire venue, and they
even helped us with all the technical
equipment such as LED screens, sound
system, stands, chairs, tables, everything
that we needed. Without their help,
we couldn’t have turned it into such
a tournament and adding a bit of a show.
What kind of feedback did you receive
from players, fans, official guests,
or representatives of the Czech
Badminton Federation regarding
the venue and the atmosphere during
the tournament?
The positive feedback was truly a joy
to hear. Some players, as well as referees,
said it was the best Final Four they had
ever experienced. Some spectators came
to watch badminton for the first time
and left absolutely thrilled – and that,
of course, meant the most to us. When
both the players and the fans praise
the event, we know all the effort was
worth it.
Was there anything that pleasantly
surprised you or the entire club during
the preparations or the tournament
itself at Ridera Sport?
Absolutely! We received amazing support
from the team around Mr Libor Uher from
WOODARÉNA Ostravice – they helped
us selflessly and with great dedication,
and their approach was truly exceptional.
And then, of course, our youngsters,
parents, players. So many willing hands
and I send a huge thank you to all of them!
How would you assess communication
with the Ridera Sport team when
planning and running club events?
There’s really nothing to criticise
– communication is quick, clear,
and genuinely personal. Everything runs
like clockwork. We’re very happy with
the cooperation.
Do club members also use other
services at the venue beyond the courts,
such as recovery facilities or the gym?
Yes. Recovery facilities, the gym, and even
space for individual training is used by our
members and they make full use of all of it.
And when we need something outside
of regular training, we know exactly where
to go and who to turn to.
What do you see as the main benefit
of your club’s partnership with Ridera
Sport? Is there anything you would
consider exceptional?
We’ve said a lot already, but we’ll gladly
repeat it: this is a partnership that works
brilliantly. The facilities, the support,
the attitude of the people – everything
operates at an exceptional level. We’re
truly grateful for that.
Would you recommend the venue
to other sports clubs as a reliable base
for both competitive and training
activities?
Without hesitation, yes. But honestly –
we kind of hope we’ll remain one of the
main partners and that we’ll be able
to enjoy these fantastic facilities for a long
time to come.
