The Akord House of Culture

Had, Has, and Always Will Have Its Own Magic and Soul

In 2019 the Cultural and Social Centre Akord celebrates 60th anniversary. For all those years it has

been presenting the most populous district of Ostrava with culture and entertainment and more.

We discussed that and more with Mgr. Darina Daňková, Factor of AKORD & POKLAD, s.r.o., whose

managerial skills were awarded a significant regional prize.

The Akord is celebrating its 60th birthday

this year. What can you offer the business

world?

Akord has gone through many changes

over the last couple of years. It is no longer

just a “House of Culture”. The building’s

reconstruction and an incredible creative

team have turned it into a modern cultural,

congressional and educational center for the

Ostrava metropole. Other than performances

and concerts of famous artists, we also create

our own programs. We work as an event

agency, and so can draft a custom event for

our clients from A to Z. We are a popular

place for hosting balls, congresses, seminars

and Christmas parties. Due to the fact that

we have our own restaurant and hotel, we

can provide complex services in the scope

of a single facility.

It might not be so visible at first sight, but

Akord contains three halls, seven lounges,

three classrooms, three exercise halls, and

a restaurant, hotel, summer garden, and

a technical center. Each client can therefore

find exactly the type of environment needed

for their event.

Akord’s first book publication was released

this year, and you took part in its creation.

Can you tell us about it?

It is called “The Akord House of Culture--60

years of culture and arts”. The first part

is dedicated to the architecture and

development of not only Akord’s building,

but also the square and housing around

it, which were created and refined by the

planners from the Jiří Kroha atelier. The

second part concerns itself with local cultural

events over the last sixty years. It also includes

stories from people that witnessed different

phases of Akord. I carried out very interesting

interviews with them. Akord had, has, and

always will have its own magic and soul.

You received second place in the prestigious

Lady Business of the Moraviansilesian

region competition this year. What does

this mean to you?

It is a great honor for me, personally, but

it also comes as praise for our entire team.

I view it as an acknowledgement of my

work for Ostrava over the years, as well

as a commitment for further work.

How would you describe your role

in Akord?

I am an innovator, creator, and courier

of change and vision. These aspects

manifest themselves in all areas of my

management work. Right from the start,

my goal was to create a strong and solid

cultural institution. This meant putting

together a team of people that are

creative, independent, competent and

have an interest in sharing their ideas for

the expansion of Akord. An overwhelming

majority of my colleagues put their heart

into what they do and work with lots

of passion, regardless of how rigorous it

might be. The status quo does not apply

to us. Key coworkers know it is their

job to come up with new projects and

procedures. They know I am hard to please,

yet Akord still radiates a friendly and open

atmosphere. People working with us are

happy, and their main motivation is not

money, and that is important.

Thank you for the interview.
